The town Dornbirn, known by its inhabitants as 'Dorrabirra‘, is located in the East Austrian Alps, near the border to Germany, Switzerland and the principality of Liechtenstein. Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences is located in Dornbirn.

The river Dornbirner Ach flows through the city and later into the Lake of Constance. With approximately 46,000 inhabitants, it is the biggest city in the region of Vorarlberg and the economic center, but still was able to preserve its charm and an impressive mixture of rural‐ and urban architecture. One of the most enjoyable places in Vorarlberg is the Dornbirn Market square. Emphasizing three centuries of varied building styles, it has become a vibrant stage and meeting place for local public life.
